Its remarkable blue-green colour is created by fine glacial rock flour suspended in the water, which reflects sunlight in vivid turquoise tones. The lake became one of Canada's most recognizable landscapes after appearing on the reverse of the Canadian twenty-dollar bill between 1969 and 1979.
